Curriculum Overview for Year 1 Spring Term 2026

Happy New Year and welcome back to another term in Year One!

Homework will continue to be set on Friday and completed by the following Friday; homework will be set on Google Classroom.

PE will continue to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday and will be led by Mr Leclerc. Your child should come to school in their PE kit. Please ensure your child has the appropriate named kit (blue shorts, white T-shirt and plimsolls or trainers – a navy tracksuit is suggested for colder weather). Please ensure your child’s name is written on all clothing.

Each child will continue to be part of a reading practice group three times a week led by an adult. Within these groups, children will use the same book to practice their fluency, comprehension and prosody (reading with expression). These books will then be sent home on a Wednesday for you to practice with your child and to be returned on Monday, ready to receive the next book. Please ensure the books are returned on Monday, as your child will not be able to receive a new book until the previous one is returned. Reading opens the doors for children to understand and create links with all areas of their learning. Within the year 1 team and classroom, we are dedicated to sharing our love and passion for reading with the children through allocated story and poetry time, and we hope you will continue this passion for reading at home with your child.

The government provides a piece of fruit/vegetable for the children to enjoy during morning break. If you want to send your child in with a healthy snack for morning breaks, packed lunches and after school, please follow the recent guidance regarding what to provide: biscuits, sweets, chocolate and crisps should not be brought into school and all snacks must be nut free and not include sesame.

School uniform:

Dark grey trousers, skirt or pinafore dress.
Light blue collared shirt or polo shirt.
Royal blue jumper, sweatshirt or cardigan with or without logo.
Black sensible shoes/boots or plain black trainers.
Black, grey or white socks or tights.

Black, blue, grey or white plain head covering (if worn).

A coat should be in school every day, as we go outside, whatever the weather. Stud earrings are permitted, but no other jewellery should be worn to school at any time.

Correct school uniform and shoes should be worn at all times.

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to us about any worries or concerns, or if there is anything you require more information about.
