Art Curriculum Intent & Implementation Statement
At Chalgrove, Art is taught with a focus on depth and quality. We develop our children as Artists who show the ability to think and act like creative practitioners. Children confidently:
• develop ideas
• master techniques
• take inspiration from the ‘Greats’
Children show independence, initiative and originality which they use to develop their creativity. At Chalgrove, we take inspiration from and use our incredible outdoor space to create impressive pieces. In their time with us, children will be immersed in a broad selection of art forms including:
• drawing
• painting
• collage
• sculpture
• print
They are given the opportunity to experiment and are also directly taught the essential skills to succeed within each Art unit they take on. Where possible, our Art curriculum is taught based upon a creative, cross-curricular approach. In Art, skills are taught and built upon, becoming progressively more complex as children move through the years. When studying and taking inspiration from Artists, children know and remember more as they move through the school.
Our children have the ability to select and use materials, process and techniques skillfully to realise their artistic intentions. At the end of their time with us at Chalgrove, our children leave with a passion for Art and the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue this interest in the next phase of their education.
