Computing Curriculum Intent & Implementation Statement
At Chalgrove, Computing is taught with a strong focus on computational thinking and creativity, enabling children to both understand and positively change the world around them. Our Computing curriculum makes meaningful links with mathematics, science and design technology, ensuring learning is broad, relevant and inspiring.
We develop our children’s knowledge and skills through three key strands:
- Programming and Computer Science
Developing competence in coding for a variety of practical and inventive purposes, including applying ideas across other subjects.
Barefoot Computing www.berefootcomputing.org - Creative use of Information Technology and Digital Literacy
Learning to communicate ideas effectively using a range of applications and devices, and developing the ability to collect, organise and manipulate data.
BPSI Computing Curriculum - E-Safety
Understanding how to connect with others safely and respectfully, acting responsibly within the law and with moral and ethical integrity.

Children at Chalgrove build independence, resilience and teamwork skills as they take on exciting, topic-linked activities and projects. They gain a thorough understanding of computing concepts, resulting in finished outcomes such as coding games, interactive programs, digital documents and multimedia content.
Computing is also embedded across the wider curriculum, supporting learning through:
- Online homework and research
- The Accelerated Reader system
- Maths interventions such as Hit the Button
- Literacy tools such as Reading Eggs and Clicker
By the time they leave Chalgrove, our children are confident, responsible and creative users of technology, with the knowledge and enthusiasm to continue their Computing journey into the next stage of their education.
