Curriculum Overview for Year 5 Spring Term 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you have had a restful break.

Some useful information about this term:

Homework: No changes: set on a Friday and will consist of a spelling practise as well as Maths and Literacy activities which should be completed on SATS Companion by the following Wednesday. There will be a weekly spelling test which will take place on a Friday. Children have also been set Brain Boosters Homework which has already been shared in our Google Classroom. The deadline for the submitting the Brain Boosters is Monday 2nd February.

PE: Year 5 PE days have changed to Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Your child should wear their PE kit (blue shorts, white T-shirt and plimsolls or trainers – a navy tracksuit is suggested for colder weather) to school on those days. Hair must be tied back.

Reading: The class demonstrated an excellent commitment to reading last term with most children reading at home every night for at least 20 minutes; please continue to support your child with this. Your child should continue to bring their reading book and yellow diary if they use one into school every day.  If your child is struggling to enjoy reading please come and talk to me and I will help them find something they will enjoy.

School uniform:

Dark grey trousers, skirt or pinafore dress or blue/ white summer dress.
Light blue collared shirt or polo shirt.
Royal blue jumper, sweatshirt or cardigan with or without logo.
Black sensible shoes/boots or plain black trainers.
Black, grey or white socks or tights.

Black, blue, grey or white plain head covering (if worn).

A coat should be in school every day as we go outside whatever the weather. Stud earrings are permitted but no other jewellery should be worn to school at any time. Correct school uniform and shoes should be worn at all times.

A re-usable water bottle should be clearly named and brought into school full each morning and returned home at the end of the day.  Several children in the class do not have water bottles which means every day we are looking around for cups. Please check with your child that they have a bottle. Please refrain from sending in the large Stanley cups as they take up a lot of space on the tables and trays.

Healthy snacks can be provided for morning breaks, packed lunches and after school. Please follow the recent guidance regarding what to provide: biscuits, sweets, chocolate and crisps should not be brought into school and all snacks must be nut free and not include sesame.

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me at pick up or send the office an email (they will forward it on) about any worries or concerns, or if there is anything about which you require further information.

Wishing your child, a happy and successful summer term,

 Mrs Theodossiou
