At Chalgrove we want children to develop the essential characteristics of historians. We want children to have an excellent knowledge and understanding of people, events and contexts from a range of Historical periods. We want them to be able to think critically and to use accurate historical evidence from a range of sources to be able to reflect, debate discuss and evaluate the past. We want children to develop a sense of curiosity about the past and their understanding of how and why people interpret the past in different ways.

The 4 main outcomes are:
• To investigate and interpret the past
• To understand chronology
• To build an overview of world history
• To communicate historically

The History curriculum is taught based upon a creative cross-curricular approach where opportunities are taken to teach historical skills and knowledge as per the National Curriculum. Every opportunity is taken to reference historical information through stories, cross-curricular topics and our own unique environment and population as a school. Distinctive, individually - based History led topics such as Ancient Greece and World War II are also taught across the school and year groups. We also create opportunities based upon our own diverse, distinctive and unique school pop
