Music Curriculum Intent & Implementation Statement

At Chalgrove, our children gain a firm understanding of Music through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing and composing. We deliver a clear scheme of work in line with the National Curriculum through Charanga. Through our Music curriculum, children will:

• Gain enjoyment, self-confidence and a sense of achievement through activities.
• Acquire musical skills and understanding of musical concepts through listening, performing then composing.
• Express ideas and feelings through sounds.

Extra-curricular clubs such as singing clubs and instrumental lessons enhance the curriculum on offer. Singing assembly will take place weekly for the whole school.
We believe it is imperative that children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community and regularly make links between pieces of music and genres together in the classroom to support this understanding.
Charanga provides a practical and inclusive approach to musical learning. During lessons, children will be given opportunities to collaborate with others through composition and learn musical vocabulary in a meaningful context.
