Music Curriculum Intent & Implementation Statement
Music at Chalgrove School
At Chalgrove, children develop a strong understanding of music through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing. Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum via the Charanga scheme, providing a structured and inclusive approach to learning.
Through our Music curriculum, children will:
-
Experience enjoyment, build self-confidence, and gain a sense of achievement.
-
Develop musical skills and understanding through listening, performing, and composing.
-
Express ideas and feelings through sound.
Extra-curricular opportunities, including singing clubs and instrumental lessons, enhance the curriculum, and the whole school participates in a weekly singing assembly. We also ensure children understand the value of music in the wider community by exploring genres and linking pieces of music across lessons. Collaborative composition and the meaningful use of musical vocabulary support their learning and enjoyment.
