Attendance Matters
Attendance Matters at Chalgrove
School attendance is central to raising standards in education and ensuring all pupils fulfil their potential.
Children of compulsory school age must by law receive full-time education and are expected to attend school for at least 96% of the time.
Why attendance matters:
-
Pupils who attend school consistently are more likely to achieve academic success.
-
Every day counts — missed school = missed learning!

How absence impacts learning
| Attendance | Days missed per year | Weeks missed per year | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100% | 0 days | 0 weeks | Excellent – full access to learning |
| 96% | 7 days | 1½ weeks | Good – on track |
| 90% | 19 days | 4 weeks | Concerning – nearly half a term lost |
| 85% | 29 days | 6 weeks | Serious risk of underachievement |
| 80% | 38 days | 8 weeks | Equivalent to missing a whole term |
Our goal: For every child to attend at least 96% of the time so they can achieve their very best.

90% may sound good but it actually means your child has missed 19 days of learning.
